Urban Ripple Project

The Bunanyung Landscape Alliance (BLA) in partnership with the Yarrowee Leigh Catchment Group (YLCG) was, in March 2024, awarded a Victorian Government Green Links Program Grant of $701,000 to deliver a project titled: Urban Ripple: Restoring our Yarrowee River and its Little Creeks during 2025 and 2026.

Trees, Shrubs and Grass Supply

The FoCC is committed to planting 6,500 trees, shrubs and grasses on the four selected sites. A total of 4,500 plants have been ordered from the Wadawurrung Indigenous Nursery at Bostock, and 2,000 from Wine Barrel Banksias Nursery in Buninyong, for delivery in June.

The planting plan has been prepared with approval from the City of Ballarat Gardens and Natural Resources Department.

Lal Lal Drain Site

Lal Lal Drain

Site is off Larter St, Canadian.
500 trees, shrubs and grasses were planted in 2025.
This year a similar planting will occur on 19th July 2026.
10am to noon.
The plantings are mostly shrubs and grasses beside the creeks.

Soapy’s Dam Site

Soapy’s Dam

Beside Elsworth St East, Canadian.
400 trees, shrubs and grasses were planted beside the dam in 2025.
This year further weed removal is planned with the planting of another 400 plants around the dam.
Plantings will occur on 23rd August.

School plantings
Students from Damascus College, Mt Clear College, Mt Rowan College and Woodmans Hill College planted 1700 trees, shrubs and grasses on the south side of Soapy’s Dam last year and will plant a similar number again this year.

Canadian Creek Site

Canadian Creek

The site is north of Hocking Ave in the Canadian Creek Reserve, Mt Clear.
1500 trees, shrubs and grasses were planted in 2 days in 2025.
This year a similar planting will occur 10am to noon Sunday, June 28th and Sunday, August 2nd 2026.

A special children’s and families planting day on Tuesday June 30th 2026 will feature named tree guards, small tools, vests and gloves and fun.

Sailors Gully Site

Sailors Gully

Has two sites. One is in Woowookarung Regional Park, beside Dozed Track.
600 plants were planted in 2025 and a similar number are to be planted on Sunday July 12th 2026.

The other site is beside Lavery Ave, Mt Clear (map shown).
300 trees, shrubs and grasses were planted in 2025.
400 plantings will occur on Sunday 16th August 2026.
10am to noon.
Plantings will be beside the creek and along Lavery Avenue leading to Woowookarung Regional Park.
