Koalas

Dementia Trail 2021

The health of the koala habitat around the Ballarat area has changed  ceaselessly over time.  In the mining boom in the second half of the 19th century, you would probably not have seen any around as the land was stripped of timber for industry. Nowadays, the removal of trees that comes hand in hand with the burgeoning growth of housing estates all around the region creates habitat stress.  This is somewhat alleviated by the creation of parkland such as Woowookarung and we can further help the restoration process by understanding more about our furry neighbours.
With this in mind, Friends of Canadian Corridor is conducting a Koala Count,  documenting sightings of Koalas in the area, to get an idea of how many of them are out there.
Please send in your sightings, with photos if you have them, to either foccinfo@gmail.com  or post them on the FoCC Facebook page

We will post some of the pictures here as well.
